Computed Tomography (CT)

Our Services

Computed Tomography (CT)

Computed Tomography, CT, uses x-rays to produce detailed pictures of structures inside the body. A CT scanner directs a series of x-ray pulses through the body. Each pulse lasts only a fraction of a second and represents a “slice” of the organ or area being studied.

Our Siemens Sensation 64 system allows us to obtain up to 64 slices per rotation with a level of detail, sharpness and clarity previously unachievable with CT. Imaging of this quality and speed offers super- thin slices with the same resolution in all three dimensions, yielding the most accurate data for our interpreting physicians of Access Radiology.

The CT technology available at Southwest Louisiana Imaging includes:

  • Abdominal Imaging
  • Coronary Calcium Score*
  • CT Angiography for Stenosis and Aneurysm Evaluation (Aorta, Carotid, Cerebral, Renal, and Peripheral)
  • Kidney Stone Evaluation
  • LDCT Lung Cancer Screening*

Coronary Calcium Score

A coronary calcium score is a low dose CT, noninvasive scan of your heart that detects calcium in the walls of arteries which is a leading indicator of heart disease.  By determining your calcium score, it can diagnose coronary artery disease with astounding accuracy, so that you may take the necessary steps toward preventing a heart attack.

If you meet one or more of these risk factors, and have experienced no symptoms, no history of heart disease, this test may be right for you.

  • Males 40-65 and Females 45-70
  • Family history of heart attack or stroke
  • LDL Cholesterol > 130
  • Blood Pressure > 140/90
  • Current Smoker
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes

Please discuss with your physician if you have one or more risk factors, as Medicare covers it with a physician’s order.  We offer them for only $75 for all other insured or non-insured patients, no order required.

Lung Cancer Screening

Lung cancer screening is a regular preventive health check for heavy smokers.  Yearly screening is recommended if you are at high risk.  You may be at high risk if you meet the following criteria:

  • Are 55- 77 years old
  • Current smoker, or have quit within the last 15 years
  • Are a heavy smoker

The LDCT procedure is a non- invasive procedure only taking a few minutes. You will lie on your back on a table while pictures of your lungs are taken with a low dose of radiation.  The results are then sent to your physician.

Please discuss with your physician if you meet those criteria, as Medicare and most commercial insurance plans cover it.
